National professional association for dentists. Has guidelines on safe sterilisation and surgery hygiene. Provides details to dentists about legal issues, and health and safety issues to do with dentistry.

Promotes the oral health of people of all ages with disabilities. Studies the problems relating to the provision of oral care for people with disabilities. Develops undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the subject. Encourages research in the field of dental care for people with special needs. Holds a register of member-specific areas of interest which can be used to put clients in touch with the appropriate dental services. Holds two meetings each year, which cover behavioural, social and clinical topics.
