Hospices

Aims to use high-quality live music as a therapeutic agent for patients and residents in hospitals, hospices and homes, and to improve the quality of life for all who live therein.

Provide detailed information on all forms of accommodation for older people nationwide. Gives guidance and advice on how to choose and finance the accommodation most suited to their needs. Information includes sheltered/retirement housing to rent or to buy and registered care homes.

Publish a directory of hospice and palliative care services, home care teams and hospital support teams in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Information on hospice and palliative care services overseas is also available.

Hands-on nursing care is provided day and night by approximately 6,000 Marie Curie nurses in patients' homes through the Marie Carie Nursing Service. This service is available throughout the UK and accessed through the local district nursing service. There are 11 Marie Curie Centres (Hospices) and admission is via GP or consultant. Both the services are free of charge to cancer patients. Runs training courses on aspects of cancer for all health professionals working in the field.

St Christopher's is the largest hospice in the UK. It cares for over 1,500 people each year. It also teaches and trains doctors, nurses and other professionals from all over the UK and from across the world.
